Combat academic antisemitism by supporting BIU research

Across the globe, academics and universities are actively participating in a systematic process to cripple the capacity for Israeli academics from receiving unbiased peer review for their publications and grant proposals for their research.

Bar-Ilan University is home to seventy research institutes covering a vast array of fields. Research discoveries and academic collaboration with scientists and academics from around the world are a hallmark of Bar-Ilan.

Israeli researchers, students and faculty are being systematically targeted by those who want to manipulate and politicize the academic world.

BIU neuroimmunologist Professor Eitan Okun speaks about these difficult challenges in this short video:

Sadly, recent examples of academic antisemitism are everywhere:

  • The Dean of Engineering in BIU collaborating with a colleague from a European university shared that funding for his colleague had been withdrawn, simply because he was going to Israel.
  • A prominent Canadian university is currently considering divesting its pooled endowment and investment funds from companies for conducting business in or with the State of Israel.
  • A Druze doctor from Northern Israel specializing in fertility shared that her latest submission was turned away from peer review and publication as the reviewing body was “not reviewing anything from Israel at this time”.

After learning of the many examples of academic antisemitism happening in Canada, an esteemed India-born scientist currently teaching at a Canadian university said:

“As an academic, I was particularly disturbed to learn that the peer-reviewed publications are not receiving the attention they deserve. As a scientist, this deeply concerns me. I believe that scientific discoveries and research should remain impartial and free from any form of politicization.”

To combat this growing academic antisemitism, we must guarantee that important research at Bar-Ilan is fully funded.

You can directly help with a gift to Operation Fuel Progress.  There are three key areas your gift can support:

  • Scholarships/Fellowships – financial assistance essential to ensure that BIU researchers attract and retain the best and the brightest students. $13,000 will fund a single annual scholarship for a prospective Bar-Ilan M.Sc. student.
  • Research – provide funding for a Bar-Ilan lab to conduct research for a full semester or even a full year guaranteeing their innovative work continues uninterrupted. $135,000 will pay for one semester of research.
  • Equipment – funds contribute to the purchase of costly lab-scale equipment necessary to conduct cutting edge experiments.  $40,000 will contribute to the purchase of lab-scale equipment.

We must never allow scientific integrity to be compromised by the agendas of those seeking to politicize science and academics.
