Applied Cryptography and Cyber Security

Enhancing the security of Israel and allies in the virtual arena, and protecting critical systems from hacker attacks.

Research Groups: Computer Science, Engineering, 23 Mathematics, Brain Research

Today security operations do not end at our physical borders. We must secure the virtual space in which we transmit, store, and share information—our cyberspace.

At this moment, foreign hackers are trying to:

Steal data from Israel’s army, security agencies, government ministries, utilities, banks, health care system, educational institutions, personal computers, cell phones, and other equipment

Disrupt vital communication channels and media

Collapse infrastructure like the electric grid and water system.

The National Center for Research in Applied Cryptography and Cyber Security serves Israel and her allies by besting our enemies in applied cryptology and applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning to cyber security.

The Path Forward

Leveraging its strong theoretical knowledge, the center creates new technologies for cyber security that utilize cryptography, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and more.

The center carries out important research in many related areas: investigating the full range of theoretical possibilities in code-making and code-breaking, designing efficient cryptographic schemes and protocols, and implementing these advances in software for the benefit of Israeli society and humanity.

The Champions

Prof. Yehuda Lindell, the director of the center, is Professor of Computer Science (and Bar-Ilan alumnus). Prof. Lindell joined the faculty of Bar-Ilan after completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center where he was a Raviv fellow. He is world-renowned for his breakthroughs in applied cryptography and the founder and Chief Scientist of Dyadic Security.

The core members of the center are members of the faculty at Bar-Ilan. They are:
