Bar-Ilan’s student body represents a mosaic of the State of Israel and a growing international delegation. BIU’s academic faculty and administrative staff are likewise multi-faceted, providing a unique atmosphere for open exchange of ideas. Diversity and tolerance are key at BIU.

BIU provides its students with “wings and roots” – the wings to ‘fly’ academically and roots that offer firm moral and ethical context to all they strive to accomplish. Students formally engage the rich ethical heritage of the Jewish people, even as they are encouraged to take part in a vast array of projects that “give back” to vulnerable populations on campus and within the wider community. It is this ability to fuse a reverence for Jewish legacy and heritage with the rigors of academic study which makes Bar-Ilan University so unique.

Founded in 1955 in Ramat Gan, Bar-Ilan University is Israel’s second-largest institution of higher education.

Uniquely combining cutting-edge, multi-disciplinary, scientific research with an education steeped in Jewish

values, Bar-Ilan prepares its students to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

From a starting population of 70 students to over 20,000 today, Bar-Ilan’s achievements in the sciences

and humanities and all fields of human endeavour have made an indelible imprint on the the State of Israel.

The university has 9 faculties: Jewish Studies, Medicine, Engineering, Law, Life Sciences, Exact Sciences, Social

Sciences, Humanities and Communications.

These faculties are active partners in Israel’s national science and technology initiatives, seeking “impact

beyond excellence”.

With the assistance of its friends and supporters, Bar-Ilan University runs a multi-branched scholarship program to help students complete their studies

The BIU’s Computer Science Department is considered a world leader in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Cyber Security and Natural Language Processing.

Plans are underway for the development of the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine to upgrade and expand the Faculty’s physical plant, and its research capabilities.

Bar-Ilan University is investing in expanding its academic and research activities and will recruit 100 outstanding STEM researchers in the next 10 years.
